In 1950s Mexico City, an American immigrant in his 40s lives a lonely life in the middle of a small American community. However, the arrival of a young student pushes the man to finally form a meaningful relationship with someone. Daniel Craig was the one who finally convinced Luca Guadagnino to cast Drew Starkey after watching Guadagnino’s audition tapes and saying, “This is the guy,” after seeing Starkey’s film… William Lee: Sit on Your Ass! The main reason is that the film was too abstract and seemed like a stream of consciousness. The overall sense is to explore the loneliness of the strange heart, the difficulty of forming relationships with others, the pain of not being able to love, and the complex emotions of depression. But the technique of the show is very stream-of-consciousness, especially the last 20 minutes, where there are almost no lines and which are used entirely to express the inner world of the male protagonist through various blurs, hallucinations and abstract art forms. Although I understood what the director wanted to express, the form of expression may not be acceptable to the audience and I wanted to leave the stage at some point.
